Last month, I had the incredible privilege of returning to the stage as Kristine, in A Chorus Line. Performing with the brilliant St Albans Musical Theatre Company and singing with a live 16 piece band, at The Alban Arena was truly special. As someone who teaches and nurtures young performers every day, stepping back into the world of performing was both a personal and professional journey. It reminded me exactly why I fell in love with theatre in the first place.
Reconnecting with My Craft
Being part of A Chorus Line reignited the creative spark that first led me to train and pursue a career in the arts. Performing as Kristine—a funny, quirky character with her own unique voice, was a joy and a challenge. Rehearsing alongside such a talented cast pushed me to grow, reflect, and reconnect with the discipline, joy, and magic of live theatre.
Why It Matters as a Teacher
As a teacher and business owner, performing reminded me what it feels like to be on the other side of the studio. The nerves, the excitement, the constant work to refine every movement and intention. It was a powerful reminder of what our students go through as they prepare for shows and exams. It refreshed my empathy and gave me new insight into how I can better support and inspire the young performers I work with at Pixie Studios Theatre School.
Strengthening Community Connections
One of the best parts of the experience was getting to meet so many wonderful local performers, creatives, and fellow teachers. It was a true celebration of community talent, and it made me feel more connected than ever to the vibrant performing arts scene here in St Albans. I left each rehearsal and performance with new ideas, friendships, and an even deeper appreciation for the power of collaboration.
Passing It On
Perhaps the most unexpected gift of performing again was the surge of inspiration it gave me. Being part of A Chorus Line reminded me how much I still have to share and how passionate I am about passing on that knowledge. Whether it’s helping a child find their voice, supporting a teen through stage fright, or simply sharing the joy of a great musical number. This experience has made me even more determined to nurture the next generation of performers.
What made the experience even more special was seeing some of my former students in the audience. I was incredibly touched to receive messages like these:

To all my students at Pixie Studios: thank you for inspiring me daily. And to anyone thinking of stepping back into the spotlight or trying something new—do it! It might just reignite your love for what you do, too.
